R: Reform
While Purdue Student Government is meant to be the elected voice of the student body, most student on campus feel disengaged and uninvolved in the decisions made. As a result, less than 20% of the student body votes in elections and many positions remain unfilled year after year.

The Problem:
The current structure of PSG assumes that the best method of hearing students’ voices is through a representative from their academic college. Three elected senators are responsible for hundreds to thousands of constituents and are often only utilized for academic related issues. This creates gaps in the conversations surrounding student culture, philanthropy, and the personal ambitions of so many Boilermakers.
Our Solution:
Aside from elected senators, we believe the best way for students to interact with PSG and have their voice heard is through RSO Ambassadors. In our new structure of the executive branch for PSG (outlined below), every student organization on campus would have the ability to appoint an ambassador who will sit on their respective executive committee. This ambassador will have the full privileges of being a PSG official in the capacity of representing their student organization in different decisions made by student government. The new executive committees would include:

Directorate of Student Life and Culture – Responsible for creating and maintaining student culture on campus to ensure a positive learning environment.

Directorate of Student Health and Safety – Responsible for creating and maintaining student programs to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.

Directorate of Academics – Responsible for the continued academic success of Purdue students and programs through various, college specific student councils.

Directorate of Governmental Relations – Responsible for the political engagement of students to foster a sense and understanding of civic duty.

Directorate of Technology – Responsible for the internal functions of PSG as well as the dissemination of information to students on behalf of PSG and the University.

Directorate of Diversity and Inclusion – Responsible for the direct communication between PSG and cultural centers as well student groups
